Review

Dune: Part Two (2024) is a monumental payoff to Denis Villeneuve’s vision, completing the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel with jaw-dropping scale, emotional depth, and narrative heft. Picking up where Part One left off, Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides fully embraces his role among the Fremen, training under Stilgar (Javier Bardem) and Chani (Zendaya), whose expanded presence adds a vital romantic and skeptical counterpoint. As Paul’s messianic power grows—fueled by spice visions and Rebecca Ferguson’s Lady Jessica, now a chilling Reverend Mother—he faces the sadistic Feyd-Rautha (Austin Butler, oozing menace) and the Emperor (Christopher Walken, understated yet commanding).

The film’s third act erupts with sandworm-riding battles and political upheaval, captured in Greig Fraser’s stunning visuals and Hans Zimmer’s seismic score. Unlike Part One’s slow build, this is a full-on epic, balancing spectacle with introspective moments—like Paul’s haunting choice between love and destiny. Minor gripes include a rushed middle act and Florence Pugh’s underused Princess Irulan, but these fade against the film’s ambition. It’s a rare sequel that surpasses its predecessor, cementing Dune as a modern sci-fi masterpiece.
