Review
Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 1 is a bittersweet, nostalgic bridge between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, delivering six episodes of Star Wars fan service with mixed execution. Ewan McGregor reprises his role as the Jedi Master, now a broken hermit on Tatooine, watching over young Luke Skywalker until a mission to save a kidnapped Leia Organa (Vivien Lyra Blair) pulls him back into action. McGregor’s soulful performance—haunted yet resilient—carries the series, especially in his long-awaited rematch with Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader, whose return is both thrilling and poignant.
The Inquisitors, led by Moses Ingram’s Reva, add tension, though her arc feels rushed and unevenly resolved. Visually, it’s a step up from The Mandalorian’s Volume tech, with dusty planets and lightsaber duels that pop, but shaky direction and odd pacing—like a drawn-out chase in Episode 2—blunt the momentum. Blair’s precocious Leia charms, but some fans may balk at continuity tweaks (Obi-Wan and Vader meeting pre-A New Hope). It’s not groundbreaking, and the limited series format leaves it feeling like a long epilogue, but McGregor and Christensen’s chemistry makes it a heartfelt, if flawed, love letter to the prequels.
