Review
Tracker Season 1 is a rugged, straightforward action drama that hit CBS airwaves post-Super Bowl LVIII, riding high as the No. 1 new show of 2024 with 13 episodes of lone-wolf intrigue. Justin Hartley stars as Colter Shaw, a survivalist “rewardist” crisscrossing the U.S. in his beat-up RV, using razor-sharp tracking skills to find the lost—be it kids snatched by cults, teens in cults, or witnesses tied to murder cases.
Hartley’s charm—think This Is Us grit with a side of Smallville swagger—anchors the procedural, backed by a lean crew: Fiona Rene’s savvy lawyer Reenie, Robin Weigert and Abby McEnany’s handler duo Teddi and Velma, and Eric Graise’s tech whiz Bobby. Based on Jeffery Deaver’s The Never Game, it’s less about deep lore and more about weekly puzzles, with Shaw’s family trauma (a dead dad, estranged siblings) simmering beneath. The cases are tidy—sometimes too tidy—but the action pops, from mountain chases to cult shootouts, and the finale’s twist with Jensen Ackles as brother Russell teases more. Critics note its formulaic vibe (89% on Rotten Tomatoes), but fans on X rave about Hartley and the mysteries. It’s brewski-sipping TV: fun, unpretentious, and rough around the edges.
