Synopsis
Monstrous Season 1 centers on Jung Ki-hoon (Koo Kyo-hwan), an occult specialist, and his ex-wife Lee Soo-jin (Shin Hyun-bin), an archaeologist, who investigate a cursed Buddhist statue (Gwibul) in Jinyang-gun.
The statue, installed by the arrogant governor Kwon Jong-soo (Park Ho-san) as a tourist attraction, unleashes a supernatural curse that drives residents mad with violent hallucinations after gazing into its eyes. As Ki-hoon and Soo-jin team up with police chief Han Seok-hee (Kim Ji-young) and her son Do-kyung (Nam Da-reum), they race to break the curse before the entire town descends into chaos.
The season culminates in a desperate bid to destroy the statue, with Ki-hoon succumbing to its influence and Soo-jin making a final sacrifice to save him
