Abbott Elementary Season 01 (Complete) | TV Series

Synopsis

Abbott Elementary Season 1 follows Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson), a relentlessly optimistic second-grade teacher navigating the underfunded Willard R. Abbott Elementary School in Philadelphia.

The mockumentary-style sitcom balances humor with sharp critiques of systemic educational inequities, as Janine and her colleagues—including no-nonsense veteran Barbara Howard (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and disillusioned substitute Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams)—struggle with crumbling facilities, bureaucratic incompetence, and personal demons.

Gregory’s arc evolves from apathy to genuine investment in teaching, driven by his complicated relationship with Ava Coleman (Janelle James), the school’s tone-deaf principal who secured her job through blackmail.

Meanwhile, Janine’s idealism clashes with harsh realities, such as students facing unstable home lives, while her budding connection with Gregory hints at romantic tension
