Black Bag is a 2025 American spy thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by David Koepp. The movie stars Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender as Kathryn and George Woodhouse, a high-ranking spy couple working for British intelligence. The story begins with the theft of a top-secret cyber weapon named Severus, capable of causing nuclear reactor meltdowns. George is tasked with identifying the mole within their agency who leaked the program.
George invites four suspects, including his wife Kathryn, to a dinner party, where he uses psychological tactics to uncover the truth. The suspects include Clarissa, a satellite imagery specialist; Freddie, her boyfriend and a managing agent; Zoe, an agency psychiatrist; and James, Zoe’s boyfriend and also a managing agent. As George investigates, he becomes increasingly suspicious of Kathryn, but their relationship is tested by the secrets they keep from each other, often using the term “black bag” to signify classified information.
