Review
Flower of Evil Season 1 is a masterful 16-episode blend of psychological thriller, romance, and crime drama that stands tall among 2020’s K-drama offerings. Lee Joon-gi shines as Baek Hee-sung, a metalworker living as Do Hyun-soo, concealing a chilling history tied to his serial-killer father. Moon Chae-won’s Cha Ji-won, his homicide-detective wife, balances warmth and tenacity as she unwittingly hunts the man she loves. Their daughter, Eun-ha (Jung Seo-yeon), adds a tender layer to their facade of domestic bliss—shattered when Ji-won probes a string of murders linked to Hee-sung’s past.
The show’s genius lies in its pacing: each cliffhanger (those pool scenes!) and reveal—like Hee-sung’s identity crisis or Ji-won’s heartbreaking trust—hooks you relentlessly. Chemistry between the leads is electric, with Lee’s restrained menace and Moon’s emotional depth stealing the show; even Jang Hee-jin (Hee-sung’s sister) and Seo Hyun-woo (a nosy reporter) shine. The OST, like “Psycho,” amplifies the tension, though the amnesia twist near the end divides fans—some call it a cop-out, others a poignant reset. Posts on X praise its suspense, and its 8.5 IMDb score reflects its grip. It’s not flawless—side plots can meander—but it’s a rollercoaster of love, lies, and redemption that demands a rewatch.
