Synopsis
Idol: The Coup is a music industry drama centered on Cotton Candy, a five-member K-pop girl group labeled as “failed idols” (mangdol) after years of struggling in obscurity. With their company, Starpeace Entertainment, neglecting them in favor of a more successful boy group, the members face the looming threat of disbandment. Refusing to give up, leader Jenna (Ahn Hee-yeon) convinces her group to fight for one last shot at success: to win No. 1 on a music show before their contract ends. As they battle industry indifference, public scorn, and their own personal traumas, the girls rediscover their passion for music and each other. Along the way, they clash with the new agency CEO (Kwak Si-yang), confront betrayals, and support one another through setbacks and heartbreaks. Despite not achieving the coveted win, Cotton Candy’s journey becomes a testament to resilience, self-worth, and the power of dreams, as each member finds new meaning and hope beyond idol life
