Synopsis
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) is the first installment of Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel. Set sixty years before The Lord of the Rings, the story follows Bilbo Baggins, a reserved hobbit from the Shire, who is recruited by the wizard Gandalf to join a company of thirteen dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield. Their quest is to reclaim the dwarves’ homeland, Erebor, from the dragon Smaug.
Along their perilous journey, the group faces trolls, goblins, and orcs, and seeks refuge with elves in Rivendell. Bilbo becomes separated in the Misty Mountains, where he encounters the creature Gollum and acquires a mysterious golden ring that grants invisibility.
