The Matrix Resurrections (2021) is a bold, messy, meta-fueled return to the groundbreaking franchise, blending nostalgia with a self-aware twist that’s as divisive as it is daring. Keanu Reeves reprises Neo, now Thomas Anderson, a game designer trapped in a mundane life until bugs in his reality—crafted by a therapy-obsessed Analyst (Neil Patrick Harris)—reawaken him. Carrie-Anne Moss’s Trinity is equally central, her bond with Neo driving the emotional core through a resurrected romance that’s both tender and fierce. Lana Wachowski leans hard into deconstruction: the film mocks its own legacy with winking flashbacks and a brainwashed Agent Smith (Jonathan Groff), while introducing a younger crew— Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Morpheus and Jessica Henwick’s Bugs—who shine despite thinner roles.
