Synopsis
Twenty Five Twenty One is a coming-of-age drama set against the backdrop of late-1990s South Korea, a period marked by the IMF financial crisis. The story follows Na Hee-do, a passionate high school fencer whose dreams are threatened when her school’s fencing team is disbanded. Determined to pursue her ambitions, Hee-do transfers schools to train alongside her idol and eventual rival, Ko Yu-rim.
Their rivalry evolves into a deep friendship as they navigate the pressures of competitive sports and personal hardships. Parallel to Hee-do’s journey is Baek Yi-jin, a young man whose privileged life collapses due to his family’s bankruptcy. As he rebuilds his life from scratch, Yi-jin forms a close bond with Hee-do, with their relationship developing from friendship to a bittersweet romance.
The drama is framed by present-day scenes, where Hee-do’s daughter uncovers her mother’s past through old diaries, revealing the enduring impact of youthful dreams, love, and heartbreak.
