Review
Yellowjackets Season 3 (as of Episode 6) is a feral, unhinged return to form, leaning hard into the chaotic energy that made Season 1 a hit, though it’s not without stumbles. In the 1996 wilderness timeline, the teen Yellowjackets—now led by Sophie Thatcher’s Natalie as the new Antler Queen—embrace their primal descent after losing their cabin to fire. Episode 4’s shocking Coach Ben death (Steven Krueger) and the group’s ritualistic hunting escalate the body count, while Sophie Nélisse’s Shauna wrestles with guilt and power. The present-day storyline, reeling from Juliette Lewis’ Natalie’s Season 2 demise, sees Melanie Lynskey’s Shauna, Christina Ricci’s Misty, and Tawny Cypress’ Taissa grappling with paranoia and mysterious threats—enter Hilary Swank’s bloodied enigma and Joel McHale’s yet-to-debut wildcard.
The show’s dual timelines converge more this season, with Tai’s (Jasmin Savoy Brown/Liv Hewson) sleepwalking and Van’s (Lauren Ambrose) cancer adding stakes. Visually, it’s stunning—snowy carnage and eerie rituals pop—though pacing lags in episodes like 5 (“Did Tai Do That?”), and Lottie’s (Courtney Eaton/Simone Kessell) arc feels sidelined. Posts on X praise the gore and twists but note adult Misty’s inertia. With a 86% Rotten Tomatoes score, it’s a thrilling mess—best when it’s kooky and scary, still finding its footing as it barrels toward April’s finale.
