Synopsis
Jazz for Two blends music-driven romance with heavy themes like grief and homophobia, though its execution is uneven.
The series shines in its atmospheric use of jazz to mirror emotional turmoil, particularly Tae-yi’s struggle to reconcile his brother’s legacy with Se-heon’s presence. Kim Jin-kwon’s Se-heon balances vulnerability and resilience, while Ji Ho-geun’s Tae-yi oscillates between hostility and vulnerability, though his erratic behavior strains credibility.
The show’s handling of internalized homophobia and toxic relationships (e.g., Ju-ha’s assault of Se-heon) feels exploitative, with rushed resolutions and underdeveloped subplots (e.g., Do-yoon’s role).
While the finale’s kiss offers closure, the lack of accountability for abuse and the abrupt dismissal of trauma undermine its impact. A flawed but visually and sonically compelling BL drama that prioritizes emotional beats over narrative cohesion.
